Read more to be communicative and professional. However, I experienced something negative today. I was leaving my daughter as usual for her 10.35am class, when another pair of parents dropped their clearly ill daughter in class as well. In the few minutes we were there observing, she was coughing badly and was unable to cover her mouth while coughing. She was clearly phlegmy and had dark rings under her eyes. We asked her mother if her child was ill and received a response that it was 'only a cough'. We gave her an opinion that children that were ill should not be allowed to attend class. The teacher present appeared to agree with our assessment. I said if she would not take her child out I would take mine out. The mother proceeded to remove her child. However we received a call from the school later that they had re-admitted the ill child. On further questioning, the staff advised that the school does not have a policy for assessing and preventing children who are ill from attending class. This is disappointing because parents and schools share a responsibility from preventing the spread of illness to the other students, their employees and the wider community. Saying that 'their parents said they were already here and didn't know what to do with her' or thinking 'it helps build immunity' shows that their sense of community is sorely lacking. I would like to see a response from the management of the school. The Internet community is certainly going to hear about this incident.
