After the 1st face to face interview, upon me asking her for more details, she gave me vague over-promises of 3 back-to-back classes with an enticing attractive remuneration (Via WhatsApp messages). 3. In mid Nov, after I reverted on several clauses in the drafted contract that I felt were too onerous on me, as a part-time staff, she reverted with a story about the Upper Sec students preferring to continue with the previous tutor online, so 1 class was cancelled. 4. When I then told her that I would have to re-think her offer, she then again verbally confirmed & then sent schedules of all the 3 classes she had earlier promised after the initial 1st interview 4. When I then asked that a few other clauses be looked into and amended and had to change trial class timing, she then again reverted to say that the upper Sec class will not be taught by me. 5. When we finally sat down for 2nd meeting together with the partner who drafts the contract on 1st Dec, the main founder, F, Finally Revealed that the students who were attending the trial class could only confirm whether they were continuing with classes in January 2024 After the trial class. At No time in all our previous communication did she Ever mention that the student had not confirmed for Jan 2024 classes and will only be doing so After the trial class. She had been very Misleading and Over-promising while trying to Coerce me into signing a highly Onerous contract that included anti-competition clauses (when I am the one in charge of providing teaching materials) and initially resisted even putting down the dollar rates until I insisted on it. After the fiasco spanning a month+, F finally terminated all her initial offers when I refused to sign the contract as she Cannot Actually confirm how many will be taking the 2 classes in Jan 2024 ( as my remuneration depends on head-count) until after the trial lesson which was supposed to take place this afternoon. F gave me the impression that she is quite shady in her business dealings, and is very unrelenting and unscrupulous when it comes to negotiating highly onerous clauses that only protects and benefits the company over the welfare of the future part-time tutor. She turned a deaf ear to a few of my reasonings, while continuously urging me to just trust them. Thank goodness, I did not.
