Description
Mr Terry Chew BSc. is the coach and author of the celebrated series ‘Maths Olympiad – Unleash The Maths Olympian in You!’ and ‘Wicked Mathematics’. His strong and proven critical thinking teaching methodology is used in math tuition classes in Singapore for students aged 5 to 18.
Having done extensive research in the field of critical problem solving, mathematical logic and competition question setting, Terry has created which has helped TCA students consistently achieve A*/AL1 in PSLE and/or Platinum and Gold awards in prestigious Math Olympiad competitions. He appears in international media due to his powerful teaching methodology and his books are used in more than 8 countries.
Our teaching methodology (The RA*CE Framework) is developed by Mr Terry Chew and is based on Singapore MOE’s 21st Century Core Competencies, which places a strong emphasis on Critical Thinking Skills and making connections between different topics to solve complicated problem sums. As Math Olympiad specialists, we add value to our students by equipping them with effective Math Olympiad skills that are relevant and useful when applied to the PSLE Math Curriculum – such as Excess & Shortage, Method of Assumption, Working Backwards and more. That is why, despite exam questions get increasingly more tricky and less straightfoward, our students are still able stay ahead of their peers.

My child was with Terry Chew for almost a year. They teach one new technique/concept every week and based on the worksheets that he took back, it’s always done well. But when I made him do Terry Chew’s assessment book on his own, he wasn’t able to do most of it. Not sure if it’s because he just needs more practice, or the teaching not as effective. There’s no communication between teacher and parent.

My son loves it that there is no homework/assignments after each class, and as a parent, I love the convenience of online (small group) class. However I would not recommend joining hybrid class option where there is a mix of online+onsite students in the same class, as the onsite kids are typically noisy/attention-seeking and the coach was unable to control them. Such disruptive onsite students were also not booted out of the class, and every few minutes the coach would yell at them, turning the class into a circus! If an online student was disruptive, he can he muted on zoom, therefore it was unfair that disruptive onsite students were not punished and continued to be a nuisance every week! If there wasn't the option of non-hybrid/ fully online class, I would not have continued.

During: While attending the Math Mastery course, I was taught concepts from topics like excess & shortage, area & perimeter and more. Some strategies to solve problems quickly and effectively were also taught. I found the lessons challenging but easy to understand. After: By the end of the course, I feel much more confident in mathematics and started to love the subject. I am now striving to build up my critical thinking skills and score an A* in the school Exam!
